JUnit 5 (Jupiter) modernised Java's canonical test framework with a proper extension model, nested test classes, parameterised tests, and dynamic tests. Every Java build tool and IDE supports it natively, and the JUnit Platform underneath it can run other engines such as Spock or TestNG.

Java verbosity persists — expect more lines per test than in Python or JavaScript.
Parallel execution is opt-in and still occasionally surprising.
Mixed JUnit 4 and 5 codebases need the vintage engine and stay confusing for years.
