Puppeteer alternatives

20 other tools do this job. Which one is right depends on why Puppeteer is not working for you — so start from the reason, not the list.

Why teams leave Puppeteer

  • No test runner, assertions, retries or reporting — you assemble all of it.
  • Chrome and Firefox only; no WebKit.
  • For E2E testing specifically, Playwright is a strict superset. Choose Puppeteer only when you want a minimal automation library.

Worth saying: Puppeteer is genuinely strong at this — small, fast, and very well documented for chrome-specific work. If that is the part you rely on, switching may cost more than it saves.

If cost is the problem

Cheaper than Puppeteer at the entry point, or free outright.

If nobody on the team writes code

Puppeteer expects code; these do not.
